ONE of the North's most prestigious amateur drama competitions, Sedgefield Festival of One Act Plays, is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Festival secretary Norma Neal is confident that the future of the amateur stage in the North-East is assured, judging by the talent to be found in the three junior entries among the 11 plays to be presented.
"They come from Saltburn, Driffield and Sedgefield and their entries promise to be very interesting productions with large casts. It is most encouraging to see such an interest among young people in the amateur theatre," she said.
The festival opens its week-long run on Monday, September 18, at Sedgefield Parish Hall at 7.30pm each evening, and the 11 plays will be presented by nine groups.
Saltburn's Youth Group will present a play written by one of their members, and the Occasional Theatre, also from Saltburn, will take the talents of Alan Butler, as playwright and actor, to the festival stage in a one-man show
