VILLAGERS in Marton-le-Moor and Dishforth have expressed fears about light pollution from six lighting columns at the RAF Station in Dishforth, near Ripon.
Harrogate Borough Council planners raised no objection to the plans by the Ministry of Defence for 130ft columns on the eastern side of the dispersal area.
But they are concerned about lighting outside normal hours and say the lights should only be used out of hours in emergencies.
A report says: "While recognising the military importance of RAF Dishforth, the council is concerned that unnecessary operation of the lights does not become an issue in the interests of the amenities of local residents, in particular light pollution."
Dishforth parish council wanted safeguards about light pollution while Marton-le-Moor parish council says such pollution is causing concern.
Marton-le-Moor has called on the council to check light pollution and its effect on their community.
"We realise this lighting is required but it will be very intrusive - and it is hoped the lighting will only be on at times of security and not during permanent hours of darkness," added the Marton-le-Moor officials
