SCHOOLS in Darlington are bidding for cash for a range of improvements.
A total of £100,000 is available for schools, which must provide match funding.
The cash is being made available under the Seed Challenge Fund, a scheme administered by Darlington Borough Council for the Government.
Bids for projects from primary and secondary schools totalling £77,000 have already been agreed. Schemes include building computer suites, and environmental projects.
Schools to benefit include Abbey Junior, Eastbourne Comprehensive, Heighington Primary, Hurworth Primary, Red Hall Primary and Whinfield Infants.
Councillor Eleanor Lister, cabinet member with responsibility for education, said: "These projects are designed to raise the standard of educational facilities."
