A COUPLE were treated for burns after a kitchen fire at their home.
The fire at a terrace house in George Street, Darlington, at about noon yesterday, caused slight damage to the kitchen.
It started when a grill pan caught fire in the oven.
A man and a woman received fat burns to their legs and arms while trying to carry the pan out of the house.
Fire Station Officer Dave Turnbull said: "The husband did the right thing by using a damp tea towel to extinguish the fire, but should not have attempted to carry the grill pan out."
The couple were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
