RESIDENTS at a Derwentside nursing home had fun and a £1,000 cash boost at the same time.
The annual summer fair at Brockwell Court Nursing Home, in Consett, raised more than £1,000 to pay for residents' outings.
But residents at the Manor House Residential Home, in Medomsley, had less luck when their summer fete had to be cancelled last weekend due to poor weather. The fete will be rescheduled for about four weeks' time.
Brockwell Court's activities coordinator Mary Westgarth was overjoyed at the public response to the fair.
She said: "The money raised will be for residents' outings and will purchase two electric fans. Our thanks go to everyone who came along and supported us on the day."
Regional manager of home owners Alliance Care, Ann Willey, said: "Many of our residents' fees are paid through DSS and fundraising plays an important part in allowing us to plan our extensive activities programme."
