Stockton racing driver David Botterill scored his best ever result in the ninth round of the Pirelli Porsche Classic Championship as Croft racing circuit played host to some classic cars at the weekend.
Vintage Porshes, Aston Martins and Ferraris all converged on Croft for the Historic Festival which had to endure extremely heavy rainfall just before an Aston Martin Owners Club championship race.
Botterill was racing his Porsche Carrera RS and finished a superb third overall, just 17 seconds behind race winner, Spencer Griffiths.
The race started in controversial circumstances when championship rivals Paul Tilleard and John Williams made contact at the first corner and Williams spun into the gravel trap.
Tilleard was able to resume but was later excluded from the results.
Botterill qualified sixth fastest on Saturday, despite finding the circuit lacking grip.
He said "I broke a CV joint testing on Thursday and still had a bit of a handling problem in qualifying. I put new shock absorbers on all round but the track still felt very slippery."
He avoided the first corner incident at the start of the race and got a good break on the first lap after the Williams/Tilleard clash.
"I had a decent start and could see what was going to happen."
David then held third place throughout, finishing well clear of the fourth-placed car to ensure his best ever finish in the Porsche Classic Championship which was just reward for an excellent performance at his home circuit.
Results: Porsche Classic Championship: 1st Spencer Griffiths, Porshe 911 SC (14:55.330), 2nd Rupert Bullock, Porshe 911SC (14:57.326), 3rd David Botterill, Porshe 911, (15:14.522)
