HIGH-FLYING student Helen Holmes is on top of the world after notching up one of the highest marks in the country in her biology A-level.
The 18-year-old received a special letter of congratulation from the Assessment Qualifications Alliance for her mark, which put her in the top five out of 9,629 candidates.
The Northallerton College student, who also scored As in chemistry, maths and further maths, is now taking up a place at New Hall, Cambridge, to study natural sciences.
She said: "I enjoyed all the A-levels and they seemed to go all right, although I was most worried about the maths.
"I had already had four of the six modules back in biology but I was still surprised by the mark, and very pleased."
Provisional analysis of A-level results in North Yorkshire showed a pass rate of 91 per cent, two per cent above the national average.
