A NEW support group has been set up to help parents with gay children.
The group, Parents Enquiry North East, is run by parents whose children are gay, bi-sexual or transgendered. They lend a friendly, listening ear and try to help parents develop understanding and acceptance.
The group, which offers its services throughout the region, has recently been awarded £300 by the Greggs Trust.
The bakery business, Greggs, has its roots in the North-East and gives the Trust one per cent of its annual net profit, which is passed on as grants to local projects.
"Parents Enquiry North East provides a confidential service to parents and carers. When our children came out to us we needed to talk to someone who would understand our feelings," said the group's co-ordinator, Joan Small. "We are very grateful to the Greggs Trust for the donation."
