A TEENAGER has been given a big thank you for the voluntary work he has done for visually impaired users of Stockton Central Library.
Phillip Ward, 15, who is blind, visited the Ann Kallagher Suite of Technology for the blind and visually impaired at Stockton Central Library, with 15-year-old Alistair Beattie, looking for voluntary work.
Phillip thought it would help other blind library users to select talking books if they had their titles in Braille.
Since school broke up in July, Phillip, his mother and friends have spent many hours writing the author and the title of the book in Braille along the spine, and have numbered each cassette in Braille. Christine Durnion, open technology manager said: "Phillip has done a tremendous job and has worked really hard.
"When Phillip finished yesterday, he had Brailled more than 1,000 talking books."
Phillip, left his voluntary post yesterday and was given a gift voucher and certificate from Stockton Borough Libraries and Stockton Blind People's Voice as a thank you.
