A HORSE called Sunshine helped to launch a plan aimed at transforming a popular country park into a major centre of environmental activity.
The shire horse was one of a large cast assembled to symbolise the many activities and visitor facilities that will be introduced or enhanced when work gets under way at the Rising Sun Country Park in North Tyneside.
Also at the party were children involved in the National Children's Day events at the park.
Mike Cottingham, vice-chairman of Northumbrian Water Environmental Trust, officially launched the plan, which provides a framework for the development of the Rising Sun.
Plans include a new landmark visitor centre, with a linked cafe, new day service building and replacement education facilities.
