POLICE are issuing a warning to parents after a man tried to entice a young girl into his car.
The incident happened in Hartlepool, at 5pm on Wednesday, when the four-year-old girl was playing in the front garden of a friend's house on the town's Rift House estate.
A man driving a dark blue pick-up stopped and asked her to get in his van. She refused and her mother, who was nearby, spotted him talking to her daughter.
She went out to confront him, but he drove off towards Catcote Road.
He is described as being in his late thirties, scruffy, medium build and approximately 5ft 10in tall.
He was wearing a sand coloured baseball cap, white T-shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with any information or who may know the man from his description is asked to contact PC Steve Plant, at Church Street station on (01429) 865675
