AN engineering firm is planning a big development at its site in Newton Aycliffe.
Sedgefield Borough Council has granted permission for the development at Tallent Engineering, on Newton Aycliffe Industrial Estate.
The plans involve demolishing a building and creating a new industrial building running the length of Howden Road. It is not clear whether the building would be used by Tallent or another company.
The company also wants to refurbish the former Darchem building and enclose a loading area. As part of the scheme, permission has been given to close Moorhead Way and Skerne Road to the public so it can be used as a private road by Tallent.
Great Aycliffe Town Council raised concerns about the nature park to the north of the site. Planning officer Andrew Farnie said the company will be approached to ask if it can fence off the site to separate it from the park.
A condition has also been attached to make sure noise from the new building will be within acceptable levels.
