A PLAY about the closure of Consett Steelworks, written by a former apprentice, will be shown in the town 20 years after the works' closure.
The musical by Steve Thompson, from the Grove area of the town, and Tom Kelly, of Jarrow, will be shown at Consett Empire Theatre next month.
Mr Thompson was an apprentice at the works before he left to pursue a career in music.
"It is a hard-hitting script, but it is also full of love and humour," said Sue Fox, of Derwentside District Council, which has booked the play.
"We hope youngsters will come to find out about the event which had such a direct bearing on their personal backgrounds and their futures."
The play will be staged at the Empire Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday, September 13 and 14.
Tickets cost £4 and £3
