A CELEBRATED Russian gipsy trio is getting a music society's autumn concert season off to a stylish start.
The two violinists and a guitarist who make up Loyko have been playing to audiences across Europe since they came together nearly ten years ago.
Now they are to perform their blend of traditional gipsy melodies and techniques in a Sowerby Music concert at St Oswald's Church next month.
The trio, made up of cousins Sergei Erdenko and Oleg Ponomarev and guitarist Vadim Koulitskii, take their name from legendary 19th Century fiddler Loyko Zabar.
They are among the leading exponents of Russian gipsy music.
The concert, which takes place on Saturday, September 9, at 7.30pm, is expected to be a sell-out.
Tickets, costing £6 in advance, are available from Hambleton Books or White Rose Books, in Thirsk, or by sending an SAE and cheque, payable to Sowerby Music, to Martin Hooper, Telford House, Sowerby, Thirsk, YP7 1HX
