A PROGRAMME for people with arthritis is available in the County Durham area.
Challenging Arthritis is a programme designed to help people manage their arthritis more effectively and is provided by Arthritis Care.
The course leaders, who are volunteers, have been trained by the charity and have the experience of living with arthritis.
They are supported by self-management trainers who also monitor the courses to see they are being delivered properly.
Participants meet once a week for six weeks and each session lasts between two and two-and-a-half hours. A variety of topics are covered at the meetings including pain management, exercise, depression, fear and frustration, diet and confidence-building.
Those taking part have the opportunity to discuss and share ideas in an understanding and safe environment.
Courses are being held in Teesdale and Wear Valley where there is funding, and in Darlington.
There is also the opportunity for volunteers to train to deliver Challenging Arthritis in Teesdale and Wear Valley.
