PLANS to expand a scrapyard on the edge of moorland have been criticised by holidaymakers and local businesses.
The scheme submitted to Ryedale District Council is for a scrapyard in the corner of a former airfield at Wombleton, near Kirkbymoorside, on the edge of the North York Moors.
William and Tom Foster want permission, partially retrospective, for access, parking and turning areas, storage and breaking of scrap and the installation of gates and fencing.
Opponents fear the scheme would be detrimental to the area and cause pollution. They include users and operators of a nearby caravan and camping park, and the operators of a windsports centre.
The site has been used as a scrap business since the 1960s, and members of the council's planning committee are expected to inspect the site before reaching a decision.
