After the Burn had only dropped two points at new team, Willington Brewer's Droop, they opened a four point lead over Hunwick Joiners Arms, who just came through their home game against the Willington Lion and Unicorn by the narrowest of margins.
There were no maximums but Trevor Allchurch set the target for the best check out with a 158 finish, while league secretary, Aynsley Rainbow finished in fourteen darts.

Tow Law Bass League
Billy Row Club share the top spot with Esh Football Club after they only dropped two points on their visit to Tow Law New Market B. Billy Row took the two trebles and then had Jeff Sneath, Adam Trotter, Geoff Pratt, Barry Watson and Bob Slater as singles winners with only Andy Elston scoring for the home side, The visiting Club took the first two doubles before Stephen Umpelby and Shaun McGrath took the final doubles.
Leading individual scorers: F Box 180 for the Rose and Crown, T Hauxwell 177 for the Station, B Kershaw 140 for the Stag's Head and J Sneath with three 140's for Billy Row Club. J Sneath also made the best start of the week with 120

Crook Coach and Horses are steadily pulling away from the rest of the league and after their nine point win over the visiting Tow Law Rose and Crown they are fifteen points ahead. The top five places with points are Coach and Horses 88, New Market B 73, Tow Law Black Horse 64, Victoria Club 64 and Travellers Rest 53.
Leading individual scorers last week were Eileen Graham 168 and 135 and Gail Abbott 135 for the Coach and Horses, June Oswald 168 for the Rose and Crown, Joy Charlton 156 for the New Market B, Elizabeth Cant 140 for the Commercial, Vera Morris 134 for Dan's Castle, Mary Jane Walton 133 for the Victoria, Elaine Lines 124 for the Olde Horse Shoe, Mary Hopper 120 for the New Market A and Gwenda Ward 120 for the Royal George.

Wear Valley Ladies League
Crook White Swan opened out their new season, after having a bye last week, with a very good odd point victory over the Crook Milll House, who had whitewashed the Coach and Horses last week. The Coach bounced back to win at home by three points over the Golden Fleece.
The Mill House are the early leaders with a three points advantage over Oakenshaw Club and newcomers, Crook Crown.
The leading individual scorers were Irene Clark 145 for the Coach and Horses, Ruby Clark 134 for Oakenshaw, Gwen Varley 115 for the White Swan and Wendy Cranston 108 for the Crown.

Keith Gowland (21.78) beat Jason Steele 3-0 to make it 1-2, Charlie Copeland (28.35) levelled the match when he beat Tony Embleton (27.31) 3-2 with a 161 checkout in the deciding leg. Croft took the lead when Andy Ford (25.47) beat Ian Dawson (20.50) 3-0 and with the next game took the match when Harry Alderson (22.80) beat Rob Grundy (21.52) 3-1. Hartlepool took the last match when Mick Hornsey (19.78) beat Eddie Mullen 3-0.

Gary Stephens (24.54) got Billingham off to a winning start in their match with Middlesbrough when he beat Mak Chahal (23.62) 3-1. The home side took the next three, with Peter Nugent (21.28) beating Steve Blackmore (18.550 3-1, Ian McDougall (20.59) beating Colin Hunton 3-0 and Mal Baker beating Kevin Stephens 3-1. Norman Stringer pulled one back for the visitors when he beat Alan Watson 3-0, but then Terry Ferguson (24.24) beat Jimmy Dunlop (21.76) 3-0 and Les Seetree (21.62) beat Mal Cairnie (20.07) 3-2.

The format of the league this season is very different. Five individuals, best of five legs of 501, plus two pairs of one leg 501, one point for each plus two points for the winning team.
Last seasons champions, Wings Club from Stockton were at home to league newcomers Billingham Social Club, Mandy Stephens (14.08) beat Jean Hagan (13.69) 3-1 to put the visitors 1 up, Rhonda Page (12.17) levelled the match when she beat Karen Allison (11.75) 3-1. Wings took the lead when Jackie Allison (16.71) beat Wendy Graham (13.95) 3-1, and it was 3-1 when Pat J Smith (20.59) bet Joyce Dunlop (14.21) 3-1, Molly Pywell (16.52) beat Dawn Smith (11.02) 3-0 to make the score 4-1 to Wings after the individuals, the pairs were 1-1 each.

It was 1-1 when Marg Gunn (13.69) beat Jean Robinson (13.43) 3-2, but from then on it was one way traffic with Ellen Humble (14.00) beating Jane Andrews (13.03) 3-1. Babs Evans (17.43) beat Louise Allen (14.45) 3-2 and Jean Atkinson (12.530 beat Ann Lomas (10.98) 3-0. The Royal won both pairs.
