Elswick Harriers
Jim Bell, fresh from his gold winning performance in the BVAF Isle of Man marathon, was first O-50 and 13th overall in the Riverside Challenge 10k road race at Jarrow in a time of 35.24. Alan Hetherington was 15th in 35.36.
In the Cramlington road race over five miles, Judith Nutt was second lady home in 29.50 while in the Northumberland Classic at Hexham, Sean Hudson took the honours in the senior men's hammer with a throw of 38.59. Hudson has had another consistent season and was awarded the best performance of the season in the Division 3 North-East hammer with 41.09.
In the same league, Elswick athletes took two other best performances. David Anderson 800m, 1.51.05 and Alan Johnson 1500m 4.04.05.
Dale Hewitson won the U-17 shot at the Hexham meeting with 14.25.
Hamsterley 10km
The first 10km run through Hamsterley Forest took place on Sunday over a challenging but scenic route.
A total of 228 runners took part in the event with another and 68 competing in the Fun Run.
The event was jointly organised by the Quakers Running Club, Forest
Enterprise and Butterwick Hospice.

Sue Snowdon of the Butterwick Hospice was delighted with the event saying: "The sun shone and lots of people from all over the region came to Hamsterley to support the runners.
"I hope. the Hamsterley run will become an annual event."
Shildon Running and AC
A total of 16 senior members competed in the Dougies Tavern 10k Riverside Challenge at Hebburn.
First home once again for the club was veteran Over-50 Bob Davison in 28th place in 37.40, Karen Shaw made a welcome return to the road race scene and was the club's first lady in 69th position in 42.08.
Canadian visitors Brian Boldo and June Suchy took the opportunity to compete in their last road race before returning home.

The overall winner was Brian Rushworth of Sunderland Harris in 31-02,.the ladies winner was Sheila Allan of Houghton and Peterlee in 37.12.
This race was the sixth event of the club's Grand Prix competition with Bob Davison in first place on 99 points followed by Steve Scott second 84, and John Gray third 81.
Julie Ingrahm leads the ladies competition with 99 points, Tracey Pickering second with 91, Dorothy Borrowdale third with 47.
The next event is the Auckland Castle 10k in October. Entry forms are available from secretary Neil Stockley or Sunnydale Leisure Centre.
The club has resumed training again after the summer break at the Sunnydale Leisure Centre. Anyone from eight years upwards can join the club. The club holds training sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.
The club competes at indoor sprint competitions and cross country events over the winter months as well as road race competitions.

Black Sheep Series Harrogate 10K
Mark Armstrong, Mike Frostick and Graham Stevens were the club's trio competing in the Black Sheep race series and were joined by Geoff Gardner in the race. This event attracted a host of class athletes from all over Yorkshire and the surrounding regions. Armstrong, one of Burn Road's front runners, led the team home in 34.50 for 51st place.
He is currently holding second position over the series and is performing consistently well in each race. Frostick, the club's top 0-50 and vet ran well for 91st place in 36.53 taking third in his category and leading the series. Hot on Mike's trail is Stevens (0-40) who finished in 95th place in 36.55. Stevens' current position in the series is a creditable ninth. Gardner (0-50) decided to join his team mates on this occasion and ran well finishing in 40.50 for 188th place.
Darlington 10km
Another massive turn-out of over 800 runners from across the region ran the annual race around where Armstrong led the way for Burn Road, having an excellent race against some top athletes from the North-East.
He finished 14th in 34.33 and was rightly pleased with his performance.
Karl Edwards (V-40), who is more at home in off-road races, found that his form is returning with each race and was also pleased with his 29th position in 36.24. Patricia Hanson(V45) was next home for the club in 50.58 after a bad start amongst the hoards of fun-runners. Her training is going well at the moment and will no doubt improve in future 10km events.
Julie Stead, in her first race over this distance finished in 54.22 and also promises better times as her training and fitness improves.
Tholthorpe 10K
The race is a scenic undulating course starting and finishing by the duck-pond in this idyllic country village just south of Thirsk. In brilliant sunshine the ubiquitous Armstrong again raced well leading the way for Burn Road, producing an excellent time of 34.08 and finished strongly for sixth.
Next home for the club came 0-40 Yet Edwards who was pleased with an improvement in his 10km time from the previous week, finishing in 20th place (36.15). Burn Road's only lady competitor, Hanson (V45), found the course and hot weather to her liking and is well on her way to producing a personal best in the coming months with her time showing a vast improvement to her last race.
Next home for the club was Stuart Pailor who recently celebrated his 70th birthday and finished in 51.00.

Northumberland Coastal Run
Fell runner Paul Dunn proved equally at home on this multi-terrain coast run by finishing 21st in 1.21.

Mike Elliott ran the Glasgow half marathon in 2.04 while Alan Purves ran the shorter distance of 3.5m at Romaldkirk Show Fell Race.
Tolthorpe 10km
Over this hilly course Keith Wesson was first home for the club finishing 34th in 37.59. Evergreen veteran traithlon champions, Mike and Kim Hall ran 47.04 and 72.52 respectively.

In the Quakers' last White Horse 5.5m trail handicap of the summer Tony Young ran 34.50 to finish in sixth place. Geoff Watson ran 35.53 and Jan Young ran a time of 44.35.
Tony Young finished 20th in 39.26 at the Hamsterley 10km while Jan Young came in with a time of 49.08 over this road/trail course.
