SARAH Russell is looking forward to a trip to Wembley after winning the Paul Fabrications Junior Show jumper of the Year qualifier at the Stockton Carnival BSJA Area 12a annual show.
In the event at Preston Park, the Thirsk rider jumped a triple clear round on Kim and Geoff Fletcher's 14-year-old Mr Speck and was 1.19 seconds ahead of Scotland's Karen Ferrie on Candy Girl.
Sarah was also in the silver medal-winning England team at the Scottish home international at Lanark the previous week. She will be riding the 12-year-old Our Cassiopea in the Wembley Newcomers Final and has two chances with the seven-year-old Lady Millennium in the Newcomers/Foxhunters Finals.
Sarah also competed in the seniors and won the Preston Park Welcome Stakes on Storm Alert, ahead of Samantha Nurse from Whitley Bay on Legal Jaguar and Jane Lishman of Darlington with Mandy's Lad.
The Kickon Discovery second round produced a good win by Donna Mewse from Chester-le-Street on the six-year-old Irish bred DJs Soft Touch.
Joanne Tanfield from Thornaby was in tremendous form, winning the North East of England Championship on her Scottish Ladies Champion mount Donna Bonita and going on to take the BSJA Area 12a Novice Championship with Stainsby Sponeck, ahead of Stokesley event rider Neal Robinson on his stallion Ugano.
The North East of England Juvenile Championship was won by Stacy Jefferies and CJ's Kemosabi, which took the grand prix at Lanark. Runner- up was Sarah Russell on Dawn Gold, ahead of Whitby's David Harland riding Colourwood Colando.
