A 39-year-old man appeared in court yesterday charged with the manslaughter of three women pedestrians who died after being struck by a car.
Teacher Angela Ovington, 28, of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, and NHS worker Susan Briggs, 30, of Durham, died last Monday after the collision with a BMW, which was being pursued by police in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Their friend, Victoria Fisher, a 27-year-old teacher from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, was critically injured in the accident and died in Leeds General Infirmary on Saturday.
A fourth friend of the women, Louise Tinkler, 28, suffered minor injuries in the incident. She has since returned to her parents' home in Chester-le-Street.
Allan Jackson, of Birkby, Huddersfield, appeared before the town's magistrates charged with the manslaughter of the three women and drink-driving. He was remanded in custody until Monday
