A STALWART member of the clubs and institutes scene in Darlington has died after a battle against cancer.
Stan Connor, 76, worked as a doorman at the Engineers Club in Northgate for six years, and had been a lifelong member.
He continued to work on the door a week up to his death on Sunday, at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
Mr Connor, who suffered from angina and arthritis, also helped out staff at Darlington Dial-a-Ride.
Engineers Club stewardess Pauline Reynolds said: "He was very poorly, but if he could make it he would be here on the door. He was a good man, who was very well liked."
Mr Connor's funeral service is at Darlington Crematorium on Thursday, at 11.15am.
