A GROUP of 15 employees from a Darlington supermarket have raised more than £2,000 for a cancer charity.
The group, from the Iceland store in Yarm Road, gave the Cancer Research Campaign a cheque of £2,311 on Saturday night.
The team of fundraisers based at the store raised the money through a variety of events, including a fancy-dress pub crawl and a raffle.
Iceland's customer services supervisor and events organiser, Kath Smith, said: "Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer.
"Our workplace has been touched by cancer in the past, and we feel very strongly about raising money to help fund research.
"The response I have received from my fellow colleagues has been overwhelming."
The Cancer Research Campaign's community fundraiser, Rebecca Laverick, said: "I think it is tremendous that the staff have given up so much of their valuable time organising, and participating in, events in aid of the Cancer Research Campaign.
"They can be assured that the money they raise will help our scientists to stay at the forefront of finding new and better treatments for cancer."
Anyone wishing to pledge their support, or who is seeking more information about future fundraising events, should contact Rebecca Laverick on 0191-232 5909.
