A MAN and a teenage girl were yesterday placed on probation for an attack on another man after they had been drinking.
Lyndsey Green and Martin Strickland turned violent towards Adam Brocklehurst in October last year in Middlesbrough.
Yesterday, Green, 18, of Nottingham Walk, and Strickland, 24, of Stephen Street, both Hartlepool, appeared before Teesside Crown Court and admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.
Judge William Crawford QC placed them both on probation for 12 months after hearing they had both spent the equivalent of a 12-month prison sentence on remand.
He told them: "Assaults of this nature on anybody for whatever reason are against the law and lead to immediate, and often lengthy custodial sentences."
Ray Priest, prosecuting, said the pair had been drinking and travelled to Middlesbrough with a friend of Mr Brocklehurst.
Strickland struck the first blow into Mr Brocklehurst's face and Green joined in, using the bottle.
Rod Hunt, for Strickland and Green, said by being put on remand in custody the two were punished immediately. They were remorseful for what had happened.
He said a description in reports about Strickland and Green's alcohol intake was not a happy picture and was a problem which needed addressing.
