HOME is where the heart is for North-East pensioners, according to a new survey.
Norwich Union questioned 600 pensioners across the country who own or are buying their own home.
The research showed that 53 per cent of those living in the North-East would rather spend money on improving their homes than going on holiday.
Eighty-one per cent also felt that having a well looked after home enabled them to stay independent.
Home-owning pensioners shunned the latest trends in decor with the majority preferring traditional styles.
Two thirds said they ignored TV home makeover shows such as Changing Rooms.
