YOUNG people from special schools in Teesside are being invited to take part in a football initiative for youngsters with special needs.
Television sports presenter Gabby Yorath is launching the Interoute Cup, which will be contested by teams from special schools throughout the country, and youngsters from Catcote School, Hartlepool, Tollesby School, Middlesbrough, and Kirkleatham School, Redcar, are being encouraged to join in the fun.
Organisers say that it is the first time such a competition has been run for young people with learning disbilities and follows several successful projects in Europe.
Ms Yorath said she hoped the championship would attract plenty of interest.
"Youngsters with special needs enjoy sport and football as much as anyone and their Interoute Cup will give them a super championship where they can display their skills.
"There's something for everyone and the emphasis is on fun. I'd like to encourage everyone who can take part to do just that."
The deadline for entries is September 29, and further information is available from the Interoute Cup Information Office on 0800 0977150.
