Area 2 show jumping was hosted for the first time by South Durham Hunt Pony Club at Woogra Farm, Bishopton by kind permission of Mr John Wage.
One hundred and ninety-two pony club members from all over the north made up the forty-eight teams that took part in three sections.
After jumping two rounds each the winning team was Cumberland Farmers Hunt north, with the Braes of Derwent second and Cleveland 'A' third.
The competition saw some excellent individual performances with Joanne Little from the Braes of Derwent south taking first place followed by Louise Grey from the Percy second and Kirsty Wise, again from the Braes of Derwent third.
In the intermediate section, which was also a qualifier, was won by Cumberland Hunt Farmers south with the Cumberland Hunt Farmers north second, and the Morpeth 'A' third.
The final section which was a junior class was won by Morpeth 'A' followed by the Cumberland Foxhounds in second and the South Durham third.
This highly popular event required a great deal of support, from members, parents and friends of the South Durham Hunt Pony Club and it was generally judged to have been a spectacular occasion with everyone looking forward to next year.
Area 2 dressage was held at Parkend Hexham by the Tynedale Hunt Pony Club on August 1. The South Durham members competing had a very successful day.
I the intermediate section we were represented by Sarah Frank riding Donna and Jill Archbold riding Dancer. The senior section was represented by individuals Becky Stout and Corinne Hutchinson and a team of four who were Sophie Barker on Peter Rabbit. Lucinda Biro on Benridge Conbrio. Jenny Burbury on Tipster. Ann-Marie Perry on Maesyfrow Rhett.
The team rode very well to win the competition and qualify for the championships at Sansaw in Shropshire.
At the championships Sophie Barker the senior in the team finished 4th in her arena. Jenny Burbury won the junior section in her arena so getting through to the ride off later in the day.
