FOUR sides from Guisborough Town Junior held a pre-season fun day and festival of football at the King George V football ground on Sunday.
They welcomed junior sides from Whitby Town, Lingdale and Brotton St Peters.
The entertainment started with the U10s and ended with the U16s from Guisborough and Whitby, in the inaugural, annual B Hodgson and B Scaife Memorial Cup match.
Results: Guisborough Town U10s 4, Lingdale U10s 1; Guisborough Town U11s 1, Brotton St Peter's 5; Guisborough Town U13s 3, Whitby Town U13s 0; B Hodgson & B Scaife Memorial Cup, Guisborough Town U16s 1, Whitby Town U16s 0.
The U16s played a fast-flowing match, both sides showing strength and character.
On 15 minutes, some fine play by Shane Barnes resulted in the only goal of the match. Barnes picked the ball up in his own half, raced down the left and floated in a ball that Stephen Bell slammed into the net.
Guisborough had the ball in the net twice more, but both were ruled offside. Whitby could have equalised on several occasions, but for a solid defence and brave goal keeping by Ankers.
Team: Ankers, McFarlane, Cady (Milburn), Bell, Sill, O'Brien, Bulmer, Court (Thurwell), Barnes, Ingeldew, Burke
