ENTERPRISING youngsters marked the end of their junior school days by organising a trip to a water leisure centre.
Eight team captains at Ouston Junior School, near Chester-le-Street, arranged the visit to Wet 'n' Wild, North Shields.
And they won £500 funding for the project, called Ouston Galaxy, from the KeyFund, which is supported by the National Lottery and Investing in Children.
Wet 'n' Wild was the top choice in a survey of the 11-year-olds in year six, who have now moved on to three different secondary schools.
KeyFund facilitator Dave Cooksey said yesterday: "The group had to work as a team to plan, organise and negotiate the trip, identifying their individual and team strengths and weaknesses.
"They had one setback, though, as the coach company let them down only four days before. However, they were resourceful and managed to arrange alternative transport."
He added that the 55 pupils - accompanied by five adults - enjoyed a "very happy and rewarding ending to a very successful four years at Ouston Junior School".
