POLICE have made a fresh appeal for witnesses to a crash in which a woman motorbiker was killed.

New Zealander Deborah Philpott died when she lost control of her Honda 600cc machine after it clipped a white Citroen Saxo on the A689, two miles west of Stanhope, in Weardale, at 12.40pm, on Sunday, September 3.

Deborah was living at Coxhoe, near Durham City. Her body was flown home. The driver of the Saxo, a 60-year-old man from Chester-le-Street, was unhurt but shocked.

Durham Police yesterday released a photograph of the bike ridden by the 31-year-old marketing manager on the day she died.

The driver of an ATS van, which was passed by Deborah and her fellow bikers just before the accident, has been traced. The man, who police stressed was only a witness, has given a full statement.

Another vehicle, a gold Volvo 340 car, was passed by the bikers. Police said this car was not connected with the crash, but the driver or passengers may have information.
