NatWest Darlington and District League

Middleton St George still top the table even though they lost by six wickets on their visit to Barton.

Faced with a target of 156 Barton were indebted to Miller (56) and to Bell (33). Batting first Middleton St George ended with 155 for eight which included half-centuries by Rogers and Jameson.

Aldbrough St John are second and they had 138 runs to spare on their visit to Colburn. When they made first use of the wicket the visitors reached 223 for five, thanks mainly to Ritchie Shield whose 108 included six sixes and seven boundaries. Nigel Gamblin added 35 and for Colburn Stephen French took three for 56 in eight overs. When Colburn went into bat they totalled only 85 for eight and the top performer for Aldbrough was Johnny Hoyle with two wickets for 16 from 11 overs.

Raby Castle managed 110 for six which included 61 by Poole while for Weardale Tennick claimed five of the six wickets to fall for 39 runs. Responding Weardale ended 51 for seven as Jones took four for 19.

Barningham ended on 132 for eight but still lost by one wicket at Witton-le-Wear for whom Jones, who went in at No 4, carried his bat for 35. Mossford with five for 41 and Walker who claimed three for 43 almost snatched the game for Barningham.

Heighington could manage 95 with Riley scoring 35 at Gilling West. Harwood captured five for 16 and Riley took three for 23 before Gilling West won with their last pair at the wicket. Bosley added 34 to the Gilling West total and for Heighington Waite took four for 27 and Howard three for 27.

In division B Cockerton still lead the table but only by two points from Spennymoor. Cockerton were all out for 79 as Raw captured six for 17 runs but in response Brompton-on-Swale had 41 runs on the board. Nicholson had the excellent figures of six for nine and Carroll four for 26.

Spennymoor slipped up when they went down by ten runs at Cliffe. Batting first Cliffe finished with 138 for nine including 42 by Colin Knight and 30 from Jeff Rogerson while for Spennymoor Nick Grainger captured four wicket for 46 in 15 overs.

Responding Spennymoor were dismissed for 128 of which last man Mel Groves scored 40 with a couple of sixes and five fours. Richard Peacock had a good day with the ball for Cliffe and in 12 overs picked up four for 28.

Ingleton were all out for 35 at home to Trimdon CCA for whom Peacock took six wickets for 20 runs and Coughtrey four for 13. Trimdon CCA also found run making difficult when they batted first but their modest total of 78 still proved sufficient.

After making 108 all out with Broadbent scoring 39 Dales went down by five wickets to Heighington. Overfield (4-18) and Fawcett (4-22) bowled well for Heighington before Sowerby who opened the innings finished undefeated on 54.

Middleton in Teesdale totalled 129 for seven of which Watson contributed 36 and Coatesworth 46. Haughton won by four wickets with Sergeant top performing with 36 while for Middleton in Teesdale Lee-Shield claimed five for 53.

A fine century by Elstob was the feature of Lands' total of 168 for seven at home to King James for whom Walton returned five for 31. Responding King James managed 130 leaving Lands winners by 38 runs.

Langbaurgh West Rural District League

Broughton and Kirby and Maltby are neck and neck at the top of the table ahead of the double programme at the weekend.

Broughton and Kirby lost ground in the race to the championship when they were defeated by 56 runs at home to Hutton Rudby who batting first totalled 180 for eight which included 75 by opener Hurford.

In response Broughton and Kirby never really got to grips with their task as Bailey claimed six for 28 and they were all out for 124.

Maltby had little difficulty defeating East Harlsey by nine wickets. Covell and Forth both took three wickets and Hutchinson had four for 33 when East Harlsey were dismissed for 127 of which Mason scored 36 and Hodgson 41. The target was never a problem to Maltby and opener Barber carried his bat for 45 in partnership with Morrow (51no).

Ingleby Greenhow are bottom of the table and lost by nine wickets to Crathorne. When they home side made first use of the wicket they managed 85 as Danny Murdoch claimed six wickets for 16 in eight overs. Crathorne required 21 overs to make the necessary runs as Paul Mooney finished undefeated on 41 hitting six boundaries and Danny Murdoch scored 32no with four fours.

Chopgate reached 82 with Brass claiming five for 33 and Barrett four for 43, but Scruton had to fight all the way for a two wickets victory. Cook, with three for 36, Brown (3-23) and Lane (2-21) were the bowlers who almost snatched victory for Chopgate.

Swainby totalled 91 with Pearson taking four for 39 and Barningham four 17 for Thimbleby who won by four wickets. Kerr claimed four of the six wickets to fall for 38 runs.

Kirby Sigston made a very healthy 173 for six but still lost by seven wickets on their visit to Stafford Place. Clarkson (74) and Day (41no) top performed with the bat for the visitors and for Stafford Place the matchwinner was Simpson unbeaten on 90 while Hollis contributed 35.

Kildale made the highest score of the day, 277 for five on their visit to Great Smeaton. Blackett was eight runs short of a century while Doughty finished undefeated on 117.

Replying Great Smeaton were sent back for 156 of which Dodsworth scored 33 and Meynell 52.

Bass North Cleveland League

Normanby Parklands are still out in front in Division One following a six wicket victory over Greatham Paragonians who were all out for 93 as Frewin took five for 32 and Walker three for 55. Responding Normanby Parklands were grateful to Leadbetter who carried his bat for 35.

Dormans lost ground in the race for championship going down by 30 runs to Staithes. The visitors ended on 124 for five including an unbeaten 50 by opener Young, but Dormans were all out for 94 as Man of the Match Sayers returned eight for 44.

Loftus had 46 runs to spare defeating New Marske. Batting first Loftus reached 177 all out which included 38 by Ian Dixon, 34 from Alan Mitchley and 33 by David Sanderson.

Chris Robson took four for 56 in nine overs and David Alderson three for 47 also in nine overs for New Marske who in reply could only make 131 all out. Jerry Alderson was the top performer with the bat finishing on 45 and for Loftus Ian Dixon collected six for 39 in 14 overs and Chris Barritt had three for 20.

The Ladle crashed to 40 all out and lost by ten wickets to Brotton for whom Neil Broughton captured six for a miserly nine runs.

Dormanstown totalled 111 with Williams making more than half the total contributing 65 but Moorsholm replying were back in the pavilion for 105 as Collins and Johnson both took five wickets.

In Division Two Normanby Parklands made 176 for nine declared from 44.1 overs but still lost by four wickets to Gillens. Mark Davies was the match winner with the bat for Gillens hitting seven boundaries in a top scoring 70 while 'for Normanby Parkland Billy Plunkett was their top performer hitting 30 runs including four boundaries. Martin Henry had a good day with the ball for Gillens and in 22 overs he captured five wickets for 78 runs.

Boosbeck reached 202 for six with Lorrains making 47, Pasmore 33 and Ward 31. Responding Loftus B were all out for 162 which included 41 by Bowman and 32 from Dobson while for Boosbeck Lorrains and Ward both took three wickets.

Norton ended on 140 for nine of which opener Hirst carried his bat for 84 and Cowpen Bewley B won with four wickets in tact when Quinn scored 33 and Humphries 34.

Roseberry Group North-East Durham League

East Rainton have been crowned champions and they completed the season with a 285 runs victory over Coxhoe. Batting first East Rainton totalled 333 for nine in 44 overs as the runs flowed with Colin Henderson making 124. Replying Coxhoe managed 48 as Richardson claimed three for 12 and Millenthorp three for six.

Belford House are runners-up and they ended with a five wickets victory at Simonside who were all out for 97 which included 36 not out by David Connolly who hit one six and four boundaries. In reply Belford House were grateful to John Robinson who was undefeated on 35 including five boundaries when the winning run was secured after 30.4 overs.

Washington finished third after defeating Benwell Hill by nine wickets. Alan Kitchen claimed three for 30 when Benwell Hill were restricted to 108 all out. Garrod (40no) and Mitchell (56no) then steered Washington to an easy victory.

After totalling 111 as John Ricketts claimed eight wickets for 36 runs, Hospitals bowled out Littletown for 94 to win by a margin of 17 run s.

North Bitchburn had one wicket to spare overtaking the Benwell total of 114 for nine. Lee and Bunkell both took four wickets for North Bitchburn who scraped home even though Pat Welsh returned four for 66 and Noble had three for 14 in the Belmont attack.

Plawsworth finished on a disappointing note being dismissed for 77 at home to Hunwick for whom Little took seven wickets for 41. Batting first Hunwick ended the 45 overs with 123 for eight as Gary Whitfield captured three for 19 and Paul Harwood took three for 20
