PRODUCTION at a new £5m biscuit factory on Teesside is expected to begin in the next four weeks, with the potential for 150 new jobs.
Britannia Biscuits have opened the plant at the South Tees Imperial Food Park at South Bank, and the firm is the brainchild of entrepreneur Mobeen Mehdi.
The business will specialise in vegetarian biscuits, made with no animal fats, and recruitment at the site has already begun.
The project has received £100,000 from the Redcar and Cleveland single regeneration budget (SRB) with further backing from development agency One NorthEast, the Tees Valley Development Company and Redcar and Cleveland Council.
The idea tat the 17-acre food park, just off the A66, is to build a cluster of factories all related to food manufacturing
