RESIDENTS in East Cleveland are celebrating after the area picked up a trio of awards recognising the area's beauty.

Saltburn came top in the best small town in the Northumbria In Bloom competition and was runner-up in the railway section.

And the village of Margrove Park won the best small village category, while next-door village Charltons was runner up.

Jackie Taylor, from Saltburn In Bloom, said: "We are absolutely thrilled and we are very grateful to everyone who helped out, especially the borough council, parish council and the businesses. People are very pleased because we put in a lot of hard work."

The town now goes forward to the national finals, due to be held in Durham Cathedral on Wednesday, September 27
