Guisborough Town 0
Prescot Cables AFC 1
PRESCOT Cables cantered to a victory over Guisborough in the first round of the FA Vase.
Guisborough's hopes of progressing further in the contest virtually disappeared 20 minutes from time when Andy Hayes scored what was to prove the only goal of the match.
But it was the Priorymen who had the better chances in the first half.
Guisborough pressed forward from the whistle hoping for an early breakthrough.
And on four minutes Micky Ward had an excellent chance when his looping header just scraped over the crossbar.
The best chance for Guisborough fell on 25 minutes when a long throw from Jamie Allinson found Ward free in the box.
He fired a goal-bound shot that had visiting keeper Paul Dahl beaten, only to bounce off Darren Mowbray away from the open goal mouth.
The second half belonged to the visitors who stretched Guisborough's defence to the limit.
On 70 minutes Prescot stunned the home crowd by taking the lead. Andy Hayes latched onto a bouncing ball in the penalty area and smashed home the winner.
Team: Coddington, Roulston, Allinson, Corden, Mowbray, Driscoll, M Ward, Forster, D Ward (South), Todd (Wakefield), Bell.
