The second week of the new season provided plenty of goals and some dramatic action with league champions East End WMC having to come from behind to claim a 4-2 win against a spirited Springfield side that took a 2-0 lead within the opening ten minutes with goals from Jenkinson and Tate.

However, Springfield were left to rue missed chances as East End clawed their way back into the game with all their goals coming in the last 20 minutes courtesy of Gavin Bell, Mark Maddison, and Stephen Johnson (2).

Coundon Miners Arms continued their good early season form with a 6-0 victory over newly promoted Jack Horners. Coundon were four up by half-time through goals from Paul Brownson, Steven Butler, John Musgrove and Ben Reid while Curt Warburton notched a brace in the second half.

The Northern Echo took an early two-nil lead Craig Maddison and Graham Bartlett strikes however, this provoked a strong comeback from Aycliffe, and although the lead switched several times, Aycliffe eventually ran-out 6-5 victors. Chris Postle (2), Baz Postle, Geoff Peaden, Ross Killip and David Fawcett notched for Aycliffe, while Les Mooney, Darren Stanley and Bartlett scored the remaining Echo goals.

Team Scania continued their impressive start to the season, as the newly promoted side beat Stooperdale 5-3. Man of the Match Lee Hammond hit a hat-trick for Scania, with Mark Finn and Martin Smith also found the back of the net. Jimmy Morris (2) and Anth Thoms were Stooperdale's scorers.

Last season's Second Division champions Spraire took an early lead against Busters through Paul Richardson but a brace from John Banks and a well taken goal from Darren Winter put Busters in control, and Graham Peppers strike proved to be not enough, as Busters held on to win 3-2. In the remaining first division game, Brinkburn beat Copper Beech DCS by four goals to two.

Nestfield Club won their second consecutive game of the season by a six-goal margin, after beating Smith & Allan 8-2. Mitchell notched a hat-trick for Nestfield, with Liddle, Kemp, Cockburn and Tindle hitting one apiece for a Nestfield side that are the early pace-setters in Division Two.

In a hard fought local derby game Bishop Auckland Derby ran out 8-2 victors over rivals Newton Cap. Darren Dye top scored a hat-trick for The Derby, while John Richardson grabbed two and Darren Furness, Paul Henderson and Lee Walton scored one apiece. Scorers for Newton Cap were Neil Redden and Dean Stanley.

Green Dragon maintained their 100 per cent record with an excellent 9-3 victory over The Greyhound with Fred Wood scoring a hat-trick for the victors and Dave Abdale (2), Martin Lamont (2), Mike Brough and Shaun Russell hitting their remaining goals. Michael, Adams, Steve Robinson and Graham Parker scored Greyhound's goals.

A single goal was always going to be enough to separate Northern Spirit RA and Northern Spirit Colts in a keenly-contested battle played in damp conditions.

David Caygill's strike from close range early in the second half proved the difference although RA felt aggrieved at having another 'goal' disallowed as the referee deemed it hadn't crossed the line.

However, the Colts couldn't find a way past RA keeper Paul Robinson, who was in inspired form as Spirit RA held on for all three points.

Classic World Of Fitness gained their first win of the season with an impressive 10-1 victory over a struggling Hogans side. James Turbitt, Gary Fenwick, Graham Todd and Grant Brown all struck two goals each for The Classic, with Martin Williamson also getting on the score-sheet. Scott Taylor hit Hogans' consolation goal.

In the remaining second division game, Sadberge defeated Hoppers Transport 3-2 thanks to goals from Anth Boyle (2) and Mark Grant. Kevin Nesbitt and Simon King scored Hoppers goals.

The Shuttle and Loom remain the team to beat in Division Three, and they continued their high scoring exploits of last week with a 10-1 victory over the Oak Tree. Kevin Baines, Mike Dutton and Man of the Match Gary Hutchinson all grabbed hat tricks while Stu Curry hit the other goal. Stuart Fawcett was on the mark for the Oak Tree.

Hurworth Albion took an early lead against AXA through Neil Bell, but AXA soon got back on a level footing with a McArthur free kick but an own goal and Bell's second gave Hurworth a 3-1 half-time lead. A long-range effort from Sean Iceton put them further ahead before Bell completed his hat-trick as Albion ran out 5-1 victors.

The Falchion continue to struggle, going down 11-1 to AFC Orange. Man of the Match Kevin Kokes hit a hat trick for Orange, with substitute Daniel Ofluso grabbing a brace while Hibbert, Irvin, Gallagher, McIntyre, Waclaweck and Sturman scored Orange's other goals. Richard Young grabbed Falchion's goal.

In a close fought encounter at Abbey Road, 21st All Stars beat a resilient Biglins News 5-2, but only after the losers had twice equalised through Adrian Henderson and Martin Hickmans.

Three goals in the last ten minutes for the All Stars killed off Biglins' hopes with Daron Kokes (3) and Anthony McMaster (2) being the All Stars goalscorers.

Bishop Auckland Kings Head and Hopetown WMC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in a game which neither side deserved to lose. Anthony Byrne gave the Kings Head an early lead, which they held until late in the second half when two goals from Kevin Wake put Hopetown in the driving seat. However, Michael Pocklington was on hand to scramble the ball home from close range and earn the Kings Head a point.

League Challenge Cup

Iround one of the competition Seaham the Duke kept up their impressive league form with a 3-1 away win at Washington Cross Keys with goals from John Pinder (2) and Ross Pinder. Cross Keys' goal was scored by John Miller. Hartlepool Boys Welfare won easily at home to Herrington CW, 5-1 despite going 1-0 down to a Micheal Patterson goal. Boys replied with goals from Chris Birbeck (3), Anthony Young and James Parkinson.

Washington Westwood won 7-0 at home to Birtley Town Res with goals from Stu Griffith, George Malley, Jason Fox, Chris Lindsted, Micheal Ford, Dean Bellings and Kevin Hagen.

Chester FC won 4-0 away at Ebchester with all four goals from David Hewison.

Springwell Village won 3-0 at Seaham Mallard with goals from Andrew Elliott (2), and Paul Lowery while Belford House won 4-0 at Flying Boat with Kenny Taylor, John Holburn, James McCoy and Cameron Marshall netting.

Division One

Durham Victoria Bridge stunned Whitehill FC with a 8-1 home win with Kane Hobson (4), Lee Pratt, Steven Philips, Mark Gardiner and Jimmy Shield all on the scoresheet while Whitehill's consolation goal came from Peter Norton.

Consett Methodist Church had David Rowe to thank as he scored all the goals in their 4-0 win against Heaton Hearts.

Ryton Churches took the lead from the penalty spot in their match against Bethsham who hit-back with another penalty. Tim Randall put Bethsham 2-1 ahead in the last five minutes only to see Ryton drew level with the last kick of the match to give the match a 2-2 scoreline.

A goal from Andrew Nordenfeldt after 18 minutes for Airport Church put them ahead at Whitley Bay Churches but a Paul Worsdale shot from 25-yards pulled them level at 1-1 and that's how they game finished.

Jesmond Parish Church raced into a 2-0 lead at half time through Jonathan Cook and Matthew Flenley at Stranton Saints Hartlepool. Matthew Fleetham pulled a goal back for Stranton but could not find the equaliser.

In the Second Division Mark Huck stole all the glory as his team, Wearside Community Church A, beat Westagte Road Baptist Church 4-2 with Huck scoring all four. Gwilyn Jeans and Keith Mowat netted for Westgate.

Another four-time scorer was Barry Ward as his team Monkwearmouth Christians beat Wearside Community Church B 6-2. Neil McCarten and Ben Hodgson added to Ward's four with Kevin Crowley and Michael Winch netting for Wearside.

Bethany Christian Centre had Ronnie Smith and Roger Raiye to thank for putting them 2-0 ahead at half time but goals from Matthew Hodge and Martin Davison give Middlesbrough Baptist's a 2-2 home draw.

A Paul Air penalty put Stakeford Methodists 1-0 in front at the break but Karl Hepplewhite turned the match around for Lanchester Chapel with an equaliser and then a penalty. Brother Nigel Hepplewhite finished the scoring which meant Lanchester won 3-1.

John Coxon and Ray Labourne scored a goal each for Saint Peter's as they lead 2-1 before Yarm Emmanuel's Marc Dale replied. Labourne and Dale each scored to complete the scoring which meant Saint Peter's won 3-2
