Marske v Blackhall
MARSKE took the game despite losing Tim Hood to injury after only three overs.
Blackhall had decided to bat on a good pitch after winning the toss. Hood suffered a finger injury attempting a caught and bowled and needed hospital attention. He took no further part in the game.
After producing some good fielding performances in recent matches the Marske fielding plummeted. Far too many catches were dropped and the home side were fortunate Blackhall did not take full advantage. The innings closed with the visitors on 210 for 4, Mark Hopkinson being the top scorer with 56.
When Marske began their reply Hopkinson took a fine catch in the gulley to dismiss the home team's professional for 14. Richard Clayton (52) and 17-year-old James Riley impressed with a stand of 101 to restore confidence and give Marske a slight advantage.
James Riley went on to score his first 50 for the 1st XI before falling to a fine stumping.
As wickets fell in the middle order the pressure was on the home side. Richard Rennard with an unbeaten 38, a personal best for the 1st XI, made possible another good win for Marske with10 balls remaining.
Marske won by 3 wickets; Marske 20 points; Blackhall 8 points; Blackhall 210 for 4 wickets: M.Hopkinson 56, B.C. Usher 40*.
Bowling: R.J. Rennard 2 for 62, R.A. Walker 1 for 25.
Marske 214 for 7 wickets: J.S. Riley 54, R.P. Clayton 52.
Bowling: R.D. Watts 3 for 28, J.I.Darby 2 for 44.
The last league games of the season are played tomorrow, when Marske are away to Middlesbrough
