BUSINESS and council leaders are preparing to meet in an effort to help boost a district's economy.

Ryedale District Council has set up a new business forum, and traders from throughout the area will get together with council officers on Monday night to discuss the way ahead.

The council's industrial development officer, Trevor Holmes, said: "We shall be explaining what our department does, and we shall be listening to the views of the business committee and exploring ways in which we can work together."

The agenda will include the need for more workspace units, how the council can support businesses, and how to bring new European funding to the district.

Mr Holmes said: "The council is keen to listen to issues facing businesses in Ryedale to enable us to plan future policy and feed into the county, regional and central Government initiatives.

"It is an opportunity for the business world to raise issues which can help to formulate future economic development policy in Ryedale."

The meeting takes place on Monday, starting at 5.30pm, at the Northern Ryedale Leisure Centre, Swainsea Lane, Pickering.
