THE names of every Redcar resident killed in action since 1939 have been put on a new cenotaph in the town.
The renovated cenotaph was unveiled and officially blessed at a service on Saturday.
The work to the cenotaph was made possible by a host of donations from businesses and individuals.
The fund is being kept open to collect money for maintenance of the cenotaphand to create a memorial garden opposite the site.
Relatives of some of those killed in conflict since 1939 were at the dedication service, which was conducted by the Reverend John Richardson, of Christ Church, Coatham.
The secretary of the Redcar branch of the Royal British Legion, Eric Howden, said: "The project has taken a lot of time and effort by a lot of people over the past few years.
"The work is now completed and the names of all those killed in conflicts from 1939 to the present have at last been honoured by being carved in granite for all to see."
He added: "On behalf of the fund I would like to thank everyone who has donated to the fund, whether it be time or financially."
