VOLUNTEERS got their hands dirty at the weekend to clear up ponds to help the wildlife.
Recruits with the Acorn Trust removed rubbish and reeds from the Grove Ponds at The Grove, near Consett.
The group, some wearing waders, removed any obstacles that could cause a threat to the lives of animals or birds in the area.
The Grove Ponds were recently given a facelift by Acorn Trust volunteers, with signs, a new footpath, and seats designed and carved by local children with help from a professional woodcarver. Volunteers and workers with the probation service completed the path earlier this year. It is now suitable for use by wheelchair users and buggies
