FORMER Durham School headteacher Michael Vallance has opened a building in his name to give pupils modern study facilities.
The Vallance building, a former home to day boys of Langley House and their house master, has been refurbished.
It now holds a suite of classrooms for the departments of economics, business studies, religious studies, English and foreign language at the independent school. Mr Vallance, who now lives in Devon, was headteacher at Durham School between 1972 and 1982.
He was joined by former colleagues from his time at the school, including the Reverend Jack Marsden and Norman MacLeod, along with headteacher Neil Kern.
The Vallance building offers views over trees, grassy meadows and the school's herd of Highland cattle.
