MUSICIANS handed over four £1,000 charity cheques following a successful concert.
The Music For Darlington group organise a Last Night of the Proms every year.
This year's prom, the fourth, took place in May, in the Dolphin Centre, and was as popular as previous years. The concert involves bands, choral societies and soloists from all over the region and is a highlight of the musical calendar in Darlington.
Event organiser Ivor Shirley said yesterday: "Normally, it attracts an audience of about 800, and did again this year, and about 300 people participated."
There is always a fundraising element to the event, with four charities nominated each year. This year's beneficiaries were the Darlington branches of the Alzheimer's Disease Society and Age Concern, St Teresa's Hospice and the NSPCC.
Chairman Alan Charlton presented each with a cheque for £1,000 at a ceremony in the Age Concern Centre, Beaumont Street.
The groups had already received some money from the Cummins Charity Trust, which is connected to the event
