MEMBERS of the public were given the rare chance of a behind-the-scenes glimpse at what is involved in police work over the weekend.
The North Yorkshire force threw open the doors of its stately headquarters for a series of guided tours on Saturday and Sunday.
The event was part of the Civic Trust's national series of Heritage Open Days, during which buildings that are rarely seen by the public open their doors for all.
The North Yorkshire Police headquarters - at Newby Wiske Hall, near Northallerton - is a Grade II listed building.
It was erected in 1684 and is looked upon as a fine example of late 17th Century architecture
