A TEENAGER killed when his car hit a railway bridge has been named as David McKenzie.
The 17-year-old, of Gilesgate, near Durham City, was certified dead at the scene by a police surgeon following yesterday's early-morning crash on the A690 dual-carriageway, at Carrville.
His red Seat Ibiza mounted a grass central reservation before hitting the bridge and landing in the westbound carriageway.
No other vehicle was involved in the accident, near the Ramside Hall Hotel.
Police accident investigators closed part of the A690, between Rainton Gate and Carrville, from 5.45am yesterday to 10am.
Rush-hour drivers heading for Durham City were diverted via Pittington and Belmont.
The coroner has been informed and an inquest will open in due course.
