WHEN it comes to keeping their school tidy, young east Durham pupils have shown they are in a class on their own.
As a reward for their efforts, the top tidiers at Yohden Primary School, in Horden, have been presented with a trophy.
Each year, Easington District Counil holds a Tidy Ted Spring Clean, which is open to all schools in east Durham.
The council assesses the work put in by pupils up and down the district.
This year, the winning prize went to Yohden Primary School, where pupils were presented yesterday with a trophy, a cheque for £200 and a certificate of merit.
It is the first time since the competition began six years ago that the school has won, and headteacher Lindsey Gray said everyone was delighted.
"I am thrilled at this achievement. We have decided to spend the money on games to be played during lunchtimes."
Mrs Gray also praised the competition, which she said helped raise awareness and the importance of keeping the community clean
