AN animal sanctuary is appealing for office waste to raise cash for its residents.
Farplace Animal Rescue, in Westgate, County Durham, takes in unwanted creatures from all over Britain.
The centre's staff, who are caring for 120 residents, have a policy of never putting an animal down.
The Northern Echo launched its Animal Watch campaign in response to the region's poor record in caring for pets. Aimed at improving standards of care for both wild animals and domestic pets, the campaign has already won widespread support.
Staff at Farplace are appealing for used printer cartridges to help raise cash for the centre's upkeep.
Manager Jan Edwards said: "Don't throw your used toner cartridges from laser and inkjet printers away. We will provide a free cartridge saver bin with free delivery and pick-up. We earn valuable finds from the cartridges, which can be refilled and re-used."
