SUNDERLAND'S tourist information centre is now open throughout the week following the introduction of Sunday trading.
The move comes in the wake of last week's opening of the multi-million pound extension to the city's Bridges shopping complex.
The centre's advisors were also on hand to help a flood of newcomers to the city who have arrived for the university's Freshers' Week and are seeking information about matters such as accommodation.
Centre manager Carol Walsh said: "The opening of the new stores in the Bridges and the start of Sunday trading is likely to attract more people to Sunderland.
"We see ourselves as the information point for the whole city, so by opening on Sundays we will be able to promote the city's other attractions and provide shoppers with any help they might need.
"Each year, we get inquiries of every kind from the growing number of students coming to the university.
"Overseas students, in particular, come in to get information about places to see and accommodation for their families when they come to visit.''
