A MILLIONAIRE businessman who never forgot his roots will soon be honoured by the community where he grew up.
Knaresborough, in North Yorkshire, has decided to make George Moore a freeman. He made his fortune through a kitchen furniture manufacturing firm.
Mr Moore, who sold the George Moore Furniture Group when he retired in 1989, has given thousands of pounds to Knaresborough projects over the years, always taking a keen interest in the town's affairs.
The 72-year-old lives in the Isle of Man, but also has a home in the Wetherby area. He was recommended for the honour by former Knaresborough town councillor and three-times mayor Eileen Ferguson, who has known Mr Moore for almost 50 years.
Before putting his name forward to Knaresborough Town Council, Mrs Ferguson canvassed views of the public, and did not find anyone opposed
