DEMOLITION workers have moved into a factory badly damaged during an arson attack.
Police have asked for the former Hugh Mackay carpet factory in Renny's Lane, Dragonville, near Durham City, to be bulldozed following Monday's blaze, the latest incident at the derelict building.
Earlier this month, a 16-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after falling through the building's roof.
Work began yesterday to tear down brick and steel work at the rear of the factory. A number of bungalows will also be demolished.
The rest of the building will be pulled down in the future to make way for a Tesco supermarket.
A Durham City Council spokeswoman said it had arranged for 24-hour security patrols of the site.
