THE first Trimdon Folk Festival opens tomorrow.

One of the highlights will be an appearance by local group Skerne, featuring John Burton, agent for Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Skerne are appearing at Trimdon Labour Club tomorrow, from 7pm, sharing the bill with singer Kieran Halpin and Tyneside comedy act The Old Rope String Band.

There are still tickets available for How Are You Off For Coals, on Saturday, from 2.30pm, at Trimdon Community College.

The performance, which costs £2, features guitarist Bob Fox, who has just toured with Fairport Convention, and singer Benny Graham.

The Lonnie Donegan concert on Saturday night is almost sold out, but there are a host of other activities in the village throughout the weekend.
