A SCHEME has been launched in the North-East giving disabled people the chance to try out rowing.
Durham Amateur Rowing Club is holding a series of taster days for the disabled, using six new boats bought with money from Helios Properties and Sportsmatch fund.
Volunteer coaches have been given training so they can look after disabled rowers.
Youngsters from Ferryhill Rosebank Special School have been among the first to take part in the scheme.
Club president Peter Burdess said: "The youngsters seemed to enjoy it within their capabilities. Two or three of them got on very well.''
The scheme is being run with Durham County Council's Social Inclusion Project and the English Federation for Disability Sport
