TWO soldiers escaped unharmed after their Land Rover crashed into a bridge on a notorious road yesterday.
The one-tonne vehicle demolished part of Skeeby Bridge, near Richmond, North Yorkshire, after a trailer it was carrying locked and forced it to jack-knife in the middle of the narrow road.
The soldiers, from the Territorial Army 71 Signal Regiment in Kent, were injured in the accident at around 5am - the latest in a series at the blackspot on the A6108.
An Army spokesman said: "Internal Army inquiries will follow to determine the cause of the accident and any blame."
Road safety campaigners have previously demanded traffic lights at the bridge and a 30mph limit through Skeeby village after a series of crashes in the area.
The road has seen about 20 people injured in accidents in the past five years, and a woman was killed last year.
